Dave

30-ish married Caucasian male. Chronic insomniac who is stuck in a unfulfilling, dead-end job, has financial problems and a disintegrating marriage and is reluctantly approaching mid-life. He has a drive to make something of himself, but is confused and misguided by his wife and the advice of his peers. Dave has a love and passion for music, hockey, ping pong and his dog. Dave is similar to the character Billy Crystal plays in City Slickers mixed with aspects of Kevin Spacey's character in American Beauty.

30-ish married Caucasian female married to Dave. She is working a full-time job as a Nursing Aid while attending college full time with the goal of completing a Nursing degree. Mary is ready to move on in her life and she feels somewhat stifled by Dave and her perceptions of his lack of ambition. When she is not in school or working, she spends a great deal of time cleaning after Dave. She is intelligent and sarcastic and an avid reader as well as a connoisseur of red wine.

30-ish single Caucasian male originally from Thunder Bay Ontario, Canada. He works full time as a claims clerk at the unemployment office. Nate's goal in life is to get by with minimal effort and maximize his recreation time. Nate loves heavy metal music, ping-pong and internet porn. He has an addiction to prescription narcotics. Nate is Dave's best friend, however, he is not a good influence on Dave and he discourages Dave from pursuing his ambitions.

40-ish married Caucasian male who works with Dave in the training department, which is part of Human Resources at a major health care provider. Bob is witty, charming at times and well liked by his coworkers. Bob is good friends with Dave, however he feels he is often competing with Dave and tries to stay one step ahead. He has been known to brown-nose with management in order to position himself for upward movement in the company.

Late 40s to 60s Caucasian male. Dean is the manager of the training department, is high energy, polished on the outside and a very type-A personality. He has a lack of trust in his employees, however, and relies on them to do all aspects of the work assignments. He has very annoying habits, is technology- challenged and uses corporate jargon frequently which he assumes impresses staff and management.

Middle age, African-American male originally from Gary, Indiana. Ernie is a soulful, philosophical, homeless blues player who inspires Dave to follow his dreams. Ernie, although homeless, possesses charisma and magical qualities.

30-ish African-American female from Detroit, Michigan. She has a strong personality and is sassy, sarcastic, fun loving, outspoken, comical and well- liked by most. Wanda is Mary's best friend and she encourages Mary to leave Dave. Similar to Wanda Sykes.

Wendy

Late 20s, Caucasian, single, female. Wendy works in Accounting and interacts with executives daily. She maintains a professional appearance and attitude in the work environment. She is meticulous and detailed, friendly and reliable. When she is not at work Wendy, is open minded, "earthy", well- grounded and very easy going. She enjoys coffee shops, collecting vinyl records, and the paranormal. Wendy sees something in Dave that inspires her.

Late 20s, Caucasian, married, bleach-blond female. Kathy is well-liked and popular and knows how to play the corporate game and knows all the gossip and rumors. She talks frequently and at a higher volume than average and is always positive. She has two children at home and uses them as an excuse to come in late and leave early. In reality she leaves to go socialize with friends at local chain restaurants and bars. She is very confident and believes she is physically more attractive than she really is.
